ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

The Seaside Quilt Guild, based in the Pacific Beach area of San Diego, began in 1982 with a group of dedicated quilters who knew each other from a local quilt store and quilting class. The Guild meets monthly meetings, to hear from guest speakers, exchange ideas, and learn from one another. Ongoing opportunities to share include a block of the month project, UFO club, ‘Quilt til you Wilt’ day, and various workshops, retreats, and potlucks. For this exhibition, they chose the sea as their inspiration.

The Guild’s primary charitable focus is Project Linus, a nationwide organization that provides love, a sense of security, warmth, and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need. Guild members support Project Linus with new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.” Guild members contribute approximately 300 blankets a year to hospitals through the Linus Project. The guild’s challenge for this exhibition was “Seaside, Sea, Seashore.”
