Quilt Visions Biennial 2010

No Boundaries
At the Oceanside Museum of Art

The Quilt Visions museum exhibition features the best of contemporary quilting every two years and broke all attendance records during the last exhibition. Over 11,000 visitors viewed the 2008 exhibition. This year we were fortunate to again have three jurors who are at the top of their fields: Jason Busch, Curator of Decorative Arts at the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh; Linda Colsh, award-winning professional quilt artist and Studio Art Quilt Associates board member; and Penny McMorris, art curator and co-author of The Art Quilt, the first book on quilt design development. She has also curated quilts for John Walsh III, and for the Ardis and Robert James collection now part of the International Quilt Study Group. These jurors have selected 39 spectacular art quilts from 601 entries for a truly stunning show.

The jurors carefully considered entries from 270 artists from around the world. The three day jury process revealed so much excellent work jurors that frequently mentioned more than one exhibition could have been selected if space permitted. Almost half of the artists are exhibiting with Quilt Visions for the first time.

Juror Linda Colsh states, "As viewers experience Quilt Visions: No Boundaries, the assembled collection will express the exemplary state of the art quilt, and moreover, will shine the lens of the viewing public on these 39 works by artists who think beyond art quilts and focus on art. While the art quilt medium was a qualification for entry, this collection is by artists of exceptional expression and imagination in making work that exists in both worlds."

Oceanside Museum of Art is the host for this highly anticipated international, juried, biennial featuring the best of contemporary art quilts. A full color catalog of the exhibition will be published. Cash recognition awards will be presented.
