Fabric-Free Fashion
May 6—July 24, 2011
Opening Reception: May 6, 5-7pm.
Visions Art Museum presents Fabric-Free Fashion featuring 22 fashion designers who have stretched the concept of fashion to include any material except fabric. The designers are crafting their fashions out of window screen, gum wrappers, tree bark, bottle caps, plant life, maps, and other non-traditional materials.
The exhibition opens with a reception for the designers on May 6th during Friday Night Liberty, a monthly open house of visual and performing art venues and galleries at the NTC Promenade at Liberty Station. Friday Night Liberty is a free, all ages event from 5 to 8 p.m. in Point Loma.
"This is an exciting challenge for designers to push their skill with non-traditional materials," states guest curator Susan Lazear, Professor of Fashion at San Diego's Mesa College and founder of Cochenille Design Studio and Cochenille Computer Knit Products, Inc. "Designers are using things we look at every day but don't see as fashion," says Lazear.
