Contrasting bold, colorful, still life images with quiet, subtle layers on white, artists Jeanne Lyons Butler and Dominie Nash bring their divergent artistic voices to Visions Art Museum for "Counterpoint" opening with a reception for the artists February 4, 2011.

The artists, who hail from New York and Maryland, will be greeting visitors at the reception from 5-8 p.m. during Friday Night Liberty, a free evening of open galleries and artist studios at the NTC Promenade in Liberty Station.

Dorothy Twining Globus, curator of exhibitions at New York's Museum of Arts & Design, describes Lyons Butler's variations in white as serene and tranquil, an effect derived from limiting the range of elements and color. "In this series of work, Lyons Butler shows her mastery of balance and scale," states Twining Globus.

Although Dominie Nash identifies herself as an abstract artist she admits to being surprised at her recent interest in working from actual objects in her, �Stills from a Life� series.

"It is often the insignificant objects which turn out to have the most interesting shapes or patterns when abstracted and made to interact with each other," says Nash. Her collage-like art quilts are constructed using her own fabrics which she has patterned from a variety of surface design processes.

Nash and Lyons Butler are far apart in style, yet the distance creates a well-balanced marriage in the exhibition. "Counterpoint" at the Visions Art Museum runs through April 17, 2011.
