3° of Abstraction
April 18—July 5, 2015
Opening Reception: April 18, 5-7pm.
Three artists with very different approaches to abstraction bring their unique voices to 3° of Abstraction.
Shelley Brenner Baird creates densely designed images using both direct and serendipitous processes on fabric. She combines screen-printing, painting and drawing with dyes then manipulates the fabric by cutting, tearing and gluing. Her stitched works are bold combinations of instantaneous marks slightly out of control.
Pat Kroth transforms cloth relishing the happy accidents that occur through painting, hand-dyeing and other surface design techniques. Her transparent hanging constructions are rich with colorful confetti bits of cloth that float within the construction.
Karen Rips creates her own fabric using a variety of surface treatments. Her strong contrasts of color and sensuously stitched surfaces invite the viewer to look closely at the subtleties of the work.
