Opening Reception: June 15, 5-7pm.
Visions Member Challenge Requirements
Fashions, and fiber together with photographs are on view throughout the summer at Visions Art Museum.
Second Time Around: Fashion Recycled features fashions from 18 southern California designers who create new styles using only one segment of recycled clothing such as sleeves, collars, or cuffs. Supporting Roles: Fiber & Photography and Fashion Tops & Bottoms, a Visions Art Museum members' challenge, complete the trio of current exhibitions.
"This was an intriguing challenge for designers to push their skill using only segments of previously constructed garments or accessories," said Second Time Around curator Susan Lazear, Professor of Fashion at San Diego's Mesa College and founder of Cochenille Design Studio. "The designers used clothing parts we look at every day and transformed them into new fashions," says Lazear.
Supporting Roles: Fiber & Photography features hand-painted images on quilted cloth enhanced by complementary photographs which are sandwiched between plexi-glass and mounted to and suspended above the quilt. Artist Ann L. Scott created the quilted fiber images layered with Cameron B. Scott's photographs.
Fashion Tops & Bottoms is an exhibit of 28 small quilts made by artist members of the museum who interpreted the theme with stitched textiles.
