Graffiti V by Katie Pasquini Masopust
I began at an early age to draw and paint. My parents were very encouraging and enrolled me in many art classes. In highschool I always focused on the art classes, exploring everything from calligraphy to oil painting. After high school, while I was caring for my terminally ill mother I signed up for a quilting class in the San Francisco Bay Area.I was so excited about the repeat patterns, the textures of the fabrics and the stitching process of making a quilt. I made traditional quilts and taught students in my little quilt shop in Eureka, California, for five years. During that time, I attended a lecture from Michael James which changed my life. I would no longer use traditional patterns but create my own designs reaching back to all my years of painting, I have no formal art training, just life and the ability to see design and composition in everything around me. I have always worked in series and each series seems to end in a book on design of that form.
