Coast to Coast

February 7—April 19, 2014

Opening Reception: February 15, 5-7pm.

Coast to Coast combines the talents of New Image Artists from the Washington DC area and California Fibers from southern California, two arts organizations that focus on textiles and fiber. California Fibers was established in 1970 and New Image Artists in 1980. Both organizations jury new members based on the strength of their portfolios. The members of both organizations exhibit throughout the United States and abroad both individually and with their respective organizations. Many of the artists will be on hand at the opening reception February 15th from 5-7 p.m. to talk about their work. Admission is $5, and free for members of Visions Art Museum: Contemporary Quilts + Textiles.

The exhibition was juried jointly by Trudi Van Dyke an independent curator and arts writer from Virginia and Beth Smith, executive director of Visions Art Museum. Ten works of contemporary quilt art for the wall were selected from members of New Image Artists to be exhibited with 17 fiber and textile works from members of California Fibers. The collective work encompasses a broad range of themes from landscapes to portraits with media as diverse as hand-dyed silk, telephone wire, digital prints, and bamboo.
